“Let food be your medicine and let medicine be your food.”
The term “nutraceuticals” is defined as “any substance that may be considered a food or part of a food that provides medicinal or health benefits, including the prevention and treatment of disease.
A nutrient rich food is referred to as a “nutraceutical” when it contains ingredients with healing properties.
The terms “phytochemical” and “phytonutrient” are used interchangeably to define foods that contain health producing compounds that originate from plants. Some examples of these compounds include anti-oxidants, phytosterols, carotenoids, limonoids, and terpenes.
- Identify and set personal health goals using mindmapping.
- Distinguish foods/spices that increase brain function, reduce joint pain, balance blood sugar, strengthen cardiovascular system and aid in weight loss.
- Decipher nutrition labels, supermarket tours.
- Effects of acid-alkaline and high glycemic foods.
